Candle Wax & Fragrance Calculator
Enter your container's diameter and height to estimate wax weight and fragrance oil needed.
How this is calculated: Container volume is estimated as a cylinder, filled to 90% of height (leaving headspace). Wax weight uses a typical fill-factor per wax type (usable wax weight per fl-oz of volume). Fragrance oil is calculated as a percentage of the wax weight. Wick sizing isn't included here – it depends on both container diameter and wax type, so check your wax supplier's wick guide separately.
Different waxes have different densities and shrinkage behavior, so the same container needs slightly different amounts of wax depending on whether you’re using soy, coconut, paraffin, or beeswax. This calculator uses typical fill-factor conversions per wax type to account for that.
Fragrance load (the percentage of fragrance oil relative to wax weight) affects both scent throw and how well your candle burns. Most soy wax fragrance loads fall between 6-8%; going much higher can cause the candle to sweat fragrance oil or burn unevenly.
This tool doesn’t calculate wick size, since the right wick depends on both your container’s diameter and the specific wax/fragrance combination you’re using – check your wax supplier’s wick guide for that, ideally with a test burn before making a full batch.
